Democracy Classroom: Representation in Media in collaboration with PEN Malaysia

How are marginalised communities represented in media? What about the majority? What does a respectful and accurate representation of a community look like? Who has the power to represent a community, and are communities able to reclaim their voices? Does social media change the game? In this democracy classroom, we will talk about the importance of representation across different types of media. Democracy classrooms are a space to discuss issues, hear views that are different from your own, and consider strategies to the problem at hand. We don’t expect to come up with a concrete answer, but we would like to start the conversation!
