PIXERF Ambassador Nadirah Zakariya is one of the world’s rising
photographers, but her most memorable series was on Vogue Italia – a self
portrait that brought awareness to Vitiligo, a condition of pigment loss in some
areas of the skin.
She also is not afraid to use photography to explore her own personal history,
with projects like “Girlhood”, a collaboration with Leica which explored
sisterhood – a theme she took on in her first solo show, “Daughters Ago” in
New York, 2011.
Apart from being behind and in-front of the camera, she takes up the role of a
teacher, executing masterclasses across the world for budding photographers
to follow their own path of success, with her guidance.
She has been published in Nylon, VICE and the New York Times, and will
continue to arrest the world with her female gaze, her portraits and her
fearless use of photography to tackle issues which affect her on a deep level.
